Thoughts on Google+

So the three of you who haven’t created a Google+ account, this video is for you!

First off, let me just say that Google+ is FANTASTIC! The real question is: Is Google+ is a Facebook killer?

Well Google definitely intends on making G+ a Facebook killer, but the cold hard truth is that, it’ll take something more than just a clean UI to make people switch from Facebook to Google+. The geek community might be able to see that Google+ offers simple to use privacy settings, increased photo quality, etc (pretty much it’s a combined version of Twitter and Facebook). Unfortunately though, the non-geek community (so the majority of the world) won’t be able to piece those differences together.

Average people in the world don’t like trying new technology, they just want something that works. Why do you think so many people are still using hotmail or Comcast email addresses? It’s functional and they just don’t want to learn something new.

In the long run, it may gain a large amount of users, and could certainly dent Twitter (Twitter mostly have a younger tech oriented community), but I really doubt people would permanently switch from Facebook to Google+. The purpose of Facebook is communication and people only use Facebook to keep in touch with as many people as possible, Facebook has made many stupid decisions in the past (with privacy and design) yet people still stay with it, solely because it offers the widest network of people.

Now remember, all of that is just my personal opinion, if you have anything you’d like to add, feel free to do so in the comment section below!
