The iPad not-so-smart cover?

I’ve seen several mixed opinions towards Apple‘s Smart Cover for the iPad. Personally I’m not a huge fan for a few reasons.

The main reason why I really don’t like the Smart Cover is the fact that it isn’t very protective (keep in mind, that’s why it’s called the “Smart Cover” and not the “Smart Case”). I personally prefer something that will protect the entire device, rather than just the screen, I prefer cases more like the original iPad case, that Apple released last year. The original case was thin enough where it wasn’t annoying, and it protected the entire device from scratching while leaving the ports on the iPad open.

Another reason why I’m not a huge fan of the Smart Cover is the fact that as a stand it isn’t anything super revolutionary. The original case as well as several other cases featured a very similar style of holding up the iPad, the only difference was that they were a tad thicker, but it would actually protect the entire device. Another thing I noticed is that unlike the original Apple case, this Smart Cover seems to get in the way more so then help, so whenever you don’t want a stand you’ll probably end up just taking off the smart cover.

When seeing the Smart Cover on the Apple keynote, I was thinking that hopefully it would also be another way to create a cheaper accessory, but no it’s the same price as the original iPad case (or more if you get it in leather). So for me personally, this Smart Cover isn’t quite worth it.

Now although I personally have no use for something like this, but you don’t care too much about scratches on the back and just want something that covers your screen and works as a nice stand (and doesn’t add bulk or weight) this is definitely something for you!
