How To Install mIRC on Mac

I’ve tried many different IRC clients on Mac, and some are fantastic (like colloquy), but nothing compares to the scripting power which exists in mIRC. Unfortunately, if you’re here, you’ve learned that mIRC is not available on the Mac platform. Well luckily I’ve come with a way to install mIRC on Mac!

Now, just to start, yes we are using wine and emulating the Windows app on Mac, but don’t let that scare you away! mIRC on Mac runs insanely smoothly, I actually ran a Justin.tv / Twitch bot called Robro on mIRC for years! At Robro’s peak he was in hundreds of channels!

mIRC on Mac: Downloads

  • mIRC
    You all know mIRC!!!
  • Darwine
Allows you to emulate Windows programs on Mac

mIRC on Mac: The Installation

  1. Download both mIRC and Darwine above
  2. Mount the Darwine DMG and drag both the darwine and trix folders into the application folder
  3. mIRC on Mac - Drag to Applications

  4. Go into the Darwine folder (located in applications) and run WineHelper
  5. You’ll see a process window pop up, go to the application drop down menu and select Open (or hit command O), in here select the mIRC.exe install we downloaded earlier.
  6. Now the install for mIRC will popout (just like how it looks on windows, it’s normal if an error pops up right before mIRC’s install comes up), then in here install just like you would for windows EXCEPT make sure you uncheck all additional tasks (desktop/start menu icons, etc)
  7. Now mirc is installed and functional on your computer, to open it, go to WineHelper again, go to application->open and go to /program files/mIRC/mirc.exe/ select that and mirc should run ☺ (to make life a little bit easier, you can copy that short cut anywhere so you can open it up easily in the future)
