Obviously when a device is made thinner, it’s more prone to damage. So when developing the iPad, Apple would have to make the glass much stronger to put up with the weight of the device being in a backpack, or withstanding the occasional drop.
When looking at the video above you can see that Apple did a fantastic job making the iPad 2 glass very durable. When comparing the iPad 2’s glass to the glass of the original iPad, it’s clear that there is a huge difference in the amount they flex before they reach a breaking point.
Keep in mind though, that there is no display behind the glass (just the digitizer), so I DO NOT recommend trying this at home!
