Samsung Galaxy Tab = iPad killer? (video)

In the tablet community, the Samsung Galaxy Tab has been getting a good amount of Hype! Why you may ask? Because this is the first competitor to Apple’s iPad. Now although that’s the case does it actually stack up to be a worthy iPad competitor or even perhaps an iPad killer? Well after seeing that video and showing off a bunch of its uses I can say that it will be a competitor, a killer though I highly doubt that personally.

It’ll be a great competitor in the sense that the people who prefer Android over iOS will finally have a tablet to use (and obviously there are A LOT of Apple haters out there). Another reason is that it has a few features that the iPad currently doesn’t have such as: Flash 10.1, front AND rear cameras (although they aren’t high quality cameras, at least they are there!), and removable storage. One other feature that might pull in a lot of users is the fact that it features a 7inch display (unfortunately it isn’t AMOLED), now for me personally I prefer a larger screen on a tablet device however I’m sure some want a smaller form factor for travel.

Now the reason why I say it probably won’t be a iPad killer is the fact that although it has all those amazing features that the iPad doesn’t have it still lacks a lot of key things. For one Android in general isn’t ready for a tablet yet, this specific tablet is running 2.2 froyo, which is designed for mobile phones and most of the “80,000 apps” that they are bragging about are designed for smaller screens, so essentially it’ll look nasty. Another factor that they seem to forget is that a big reason why people buy iPads is because of the media functionality and a big chunk of that is missing in the Galaxy Tab when compared to the iPad. For example the iPad syncs with iTunes which is incredibly handy since 90% of us probably use iTunes for our entire music library, Netflix and Hulu don’t have android apps (yet). Now I will admit if you’re looking for an Android tablet, Samsung by far has the best media functionality of any Android device that I’ve used in the past. Recently I swapped over to the Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) as my primary phone and I will admit that for an android device the media functionality is spectacular form the music player to the video player…however it still isn’t as smooth, elegant, and advanced as the media players on iOS.

So if you think you’re going to get one, let me know in the comment section below!
