It’s a bird, It’s a plane, It’s a human powered aircraft!

This is what I call a cool post, haven’t had one of these in a while! Essentially the image above shows an aircraft which was modeled after Leonardo da Vinci. It’s a wing flapping aircraft which is called a ornithopter. This kind of a design has always been an inspiration for the design of Helicopters. This current model, codenamed: “The Snowbird” by its creator, can hover 475.72 feet, can travel at a speed of 15.91 mph, and only weighs about 91.59 lbs!

As you can tell from the video above, “The Snowbird” (they need a new name for this thing) is EPIC. I need one like now!

When I saw this it gave some details about how it was made by some college student, and how that was all impressive since engineers have had trouble with technology like this (blah blah blah). Essentially there is one thing I get off that article…in all honesty it probably wasn’t the kid who made it, it was probably a project with his dad (he looks more excited than the kid in the picture above). His dad probably did 90% of it and the son pretty much just named it. Kind of like this episode of South Park where Randy is determined that Stan will win the pinewood derby. So he comes up with a plan that will assure Stan a first place trophy (click me to watch the episode).
