If you were one of the early adopters for the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant (like myself) then most of you probably noticed the annoying “finding location” message staying on for way too long. Well it appears Apple isn’t the only company that makes mistakes! Unlike Apple’s mistake however there is a software fix, and it is actually fairly easy!

To fix your Samsung Vibrant’s GPS functionality just follow the following steps (I hear it works on other Galaxy S phones as well, but I can’t confirm this).

Go to Settings -> Location & Security

Uncheck “Use Wireless Networks”

Now navigate to the Phone dialer and type: “*#*#1472365#*#*” (No quotes of course)

When you type that you’ll be thrown into the LBSTestMode Menu

Click the “Applications Settings” menu, than switch Operation Mode to “MS Based”

Click back then go into “SUPL/CP Settings” and change the server to: “supl.google.com” and the server port to “7276″

Reboot your phone

Go back to Settings -> Location & Security

Check “Use Wireless Networks”

Now your GPS should be good to go (if Samsung notices this problem and releases a patch, I recomend changing your GPS settings back to the original settings before updating, original settings are listed below).

Original settings:
Operation Mode: Standalone
Server: www.spirent-lcs.com
Port: 7275

If Samsung is to fix this update I’ll make sure I include an update to this post with that information!

Hopefully this fixes the problem most of you have been having, and if my instructions are too difficult let me know and I’ll include a video on how to fix your GPS.

Now if you remember back when the iPad was being introduced in the Steve Jobs keynote a few months ago, he mentioned that the device is unlocked and you can use any carrier (that uses gsm) with the iPad. Well I though we should put that to the test, the only problem is that the iPad uses Micro-Sim cards rather then the standard Sim Card. Well thanks to my awesome brain (my awesome brain = google) you can make your T-Mobile iPad dreams come to life!

Before you even waste your time reading how to do it, lets settle a few things before. There are two positives towards doing this, one you actually have service and two you are paying less for data with no cap. Now there is a negative…which is a huge negative and will probably pull most of you away from doing this, you can only use edge, the iPad doesn’t support the same 3G frequency that T-Mobile uses.

Now using another carrier is as simple as using the Sim Removal tool (or paperclip) to take out the sim card in the iPad, then popping in a new one (thanks to the iPad being unlocked). However the problem is the microsim, now you have a 3 options:

Option 1: Buy a T-Mobile Micro-Sim

Now this is pretty straight forward, simply buy a T-Mobile microsim then activate it (Click me for an Amazon link).

Option 2: Buy a Sim Cutter

In all honesty, you’re better off going with Option 1 if you’re using T-mobile, however if you’re in another country or in an area where there are other GSM providers who don’t have Micro-Sims, this is really nice to use since it’s so precise. If you look at the image below, all you do is pop your sim in, press the tool, and a MicroSim pops out.

Option 3: Make one yourself

If you have no other options (or if you’re incredibly cheap like me), then this is one thing you can do. Use the AT&T Microsim that comes with the iPad as a template, then simply cut with scissors. Make sure you don’t cut any of the gold and you should be fine!

One of the most awaited featured for the iPhone was the percentage battery. Like most requests Apple gets similar to this, these features are added with the next update. Luckily for us they did add the percentage battery in the 3.1.2 update! Now everything is all perfect right? Wrong, Apple decided to add this feature however only iPhone 3GS users got the percentage battery leaving the iPhone 2G and 3G users in the back…again. No worries though! Like usual I’m here to help us all, just follow the following steps and you can get the percentage battery on your iPhone. Like most iPhone mods, you need to have your iPhone jailbroken for this to work.

Click me to learn how to jailbreak your iPhone.

Open Cydia

Search for “SBSettings” and install it

Exit Cydia and swipe the top like shown in the picture below.

In the menu shown hit “more”

Then click “Extras & Options”

Then turn on “Numeric Battery”

Click back then hit menu to go back to your home screen

Now your percentage battery should show up!

When I began making videos on YouTube I made A LOT of technology tutorials. Some being iPhone tutorials on how to jailbreak and unlock the newer firmwares, many viewers noticed that I stopped creating these videos and have asked me “why did you stop making videos on how to jailbreak and unlock the newer iPhone firmwares? I never know what to do!” Well the truth is that I only made those videos in the first place because I was experimenting with which kind of videos should dissolve and which videos should stay. The jailbreaking and unlocking videos unfortunately didn’t make the cut for videos that should stay. Why is something you might be thinking and i did come up with a few good reasons. One reason is that they simply didn’t get a lot of views in comparison to the other videos that I have uploaded in the past. Another reason is that they are TONS of other uploaders for this topic so I felt it was unnecessary to cloud YouTube with another video talking about the same topic (sure mine might be higher quality but the content remains the same!). Lastly the project has moved from a more difficult task to an extremely easy task, so easy that there is no point in even creating a tutorial. To prove this to you all I decided to make one final tutorial on how to unlock/jailbreak an iPhone/iPod (well if a more difficult firmware to jailbreak/unlock comes out then I may make an exception and make a video but until that day comes this will be the last!).

Warning: By following this guide you manage to render your iPhone/iPod useless we are not responsible! Please attempt at your own risk.

Downloads:

Blackra1n

Please read entire tutorial before attempting!

Steps:

Plug your iPhone/iPod into your computer, open iTunes and backup your content (to backup right click the device and hit “backup”

Restore your iPhone Firmware to 3.1.2 firmware.

Once restored open the blackra1n application that we downloaded earlier

Click “make it rain” then wait for your iPhone to restart

On your iPhone click the blackra1n icon and choose the items you want to install (Cydia/Rock)

Enjoy your jailbroken and unlocked iPhone

If you’re a unibody Macbook Pro owner, it’s more then likely that you have learned to accept the design flaws, like the hinge or the amount of heat it generates. This morning however Apple came out with a fix for one of the few design flaws that the Macbook Pro had, this design flaw being the noise the disk tray makes when the Macbook Pro makes when turned on or awoken from sleep. After seeing this update I obviously went ahead and installed it to confirm that this update works and doesn’t cause any side problems. First thing I noticed when installing this update is it does take more work then expected to install this update.

Installation Procedure:

1. Click the Apple drop down menu and select “Software Update…”
2. Select the updates you want and make sure that “EFI 1.8 Update” is selected.
3. During the install it will prompt you to click the shutdown button and do so.
4. Click the power button and WAIT. The screen will remain black for around 15-30 seconds, afterwards you will see a Apple loading screen soon after your computer will startup.
5. Once your computer is booted go to “Software Update…” once again and now a superdrive update should appear, select and install that.

After installing these updates your computer should no longer make any noise when going to sleep and when it’s awoken.

NOTE: Some users have stated that their computers have slown down after installing this update, I however haven’t noticed any speed differences (if you do try resetting your PRAM).

Big steam fan and got a new computer? Well read this to find out how to transfer all your steam games and game saves from your old computer to your new one!

If you are in any way a PC gamer then you are very familiar with the online gaming marketplace known as Steam. Steam is very similar to the playstation marketplace or the xbox marketplace for purchasing games and getting access to online play with a social network. This system works great and has become extremely popular however the only downside to doing this is downloading games only allows it to be available to that computer since you don’t have an actual copy of the game, so when upgrading computers it becomes a big problem if you want to carry your game library over. Luckily I have come up with a solution to this problem, just follow these steps and all your games can be transferred:

Make sure you have a method of moving your games (ex. flash drive, external hdd, ethernet, etc)

Open “My Computer” and select your hard drive (in my case local disk C:/).

Open the folder “Program Files”

Open the folder called “Steam” and copy the folder “SteamApps” (This folder holds all your games AND game saves)

Paste this folder in an external hard drive/flash drive (or use some method to transferring this folder to your new computer)

On the New computer move replace your old SteamApps folder with the new one and all your Games/Game Saves will be transferred

Enjoy your new PC with all your Steam games

For all of you broadcasters, video makers, video editors and video watcher out there this guide is for you. This guide will show you how to turn your boring webcam shots into something of a masterpiece. You can have it all with this guide.

Intro

This guide is assuming you know how to work a webcam, that the webcam is working and that you also have a basic idea of internet video. In this guide we will be showing you how to: Make your videos more interesting, high quality, add effects and make them fun and better videos, get started on streaming,

Lingo

Before we get started there is some lingo you need to know to understand some things.

Stream- You video broadcast

Broadcaster- Person streaming video

Lifecast- Constant streaming of your day-to-day life

Viewer- Person watching stream

Resolution- Size and quality of video

Moderator- Person who is chosen by broadcaster to monitor chat and discipline chatters if need be.

Staff- Person who works for the host website

Pro*- Person who has paid to get ads removed

Slow Mode- Puts the chat cap on the amount of message sent for a certain amount of time

Voiced- Slow Mode does not effect a voiced person, also used to show importance

Bot- A nonhuman controlled chatting bot, usually used to play games and automate messages

FME- Short for Flash Media Encoder, used to broadcast with more customization

Bit Rate- Rate at which video is transferred higher bit rate the better the quality

Lag- Delay between real time and video time

Purpose of Stream

What is the point of your stream? Its hard to throw a camera in front of you and keep it entertaining. While there are people who will show up they most times will not stay. If you are broadcasting a trivia show do not have a stream of video games.

Webcam Position

In the camera world there is a rule know as the “rule of thirds”. Imagine a tic-tac-toe bored across your camera view. Anything where the lines cross is going to be more interesting.

Blue Area are a good place to put your subject.

Now this rule is always subject to your surroundings and abilities. The rule is used very little in the internet video world because most time the background is less appealing than when you would take a photo. This does not mean you should not use the rule of thirds. It simple means that you should consider what the camera is showing.

Background

The background is important in the sense that you do not want something very distracting in the background. No televisions or places with a lot of activity (buses, parks, streets). You want the subject of the video to be very clear and clean. If you are broadcasting somewhere were there is a lot of activity zoom in on yourself (not to close). If you are somewhere dark, turn on a light and vice versa.

Bad Background

Good Background

Lighting

The lighting for a internet video is very important you do not want too much light making a glare but not enough light making it hard to see. The best way to get an good light exposure is to use overhead lighting and behind camera lighting. No lighting should be towards camera or at low spots. You want to eliminate as many shadows as possible. Remember to always go off what the camera sees not you. It is important to use what looks best, if a light makes it look bad then do not use it.

Good Lighting

Want to broadcast the audio of your computer similar to how I broadcast music? Well stereo mix is what you are looking for, this is essentially a virtual microphone on your broadcaster and when selected rather then using the audio from your mic it uses the audio from your computer. This guide is based for all Windows machines!

Windows XP:

Right click the audio icon in your system tray and click properties.

Click the recording tab.

Under recording devices click properties then check off “Stereo Mix.

Windows Vista/7:

Right click the audio icon in your system tray and click recording properties.

If “Stereo Mix” is present select that as your device and hit okay, if not go on to step 3.

Right click the white space and check of “Show Disabled Devices”

Stereo Mix should then be presented, enable it and then activate it as your device, then hit okay.

Now in your broadcaster window (in this case, the Justin.tv broadcaster) and select Stereo Mix (or the soundcard if you’re on Windows XP) as your source then every noise your computer makes is broadcasting

If for some reason you still can’t do Stereo Mix (some soundcards have different methods of activating stereomix), leave a comment below and someone will help you

Have you ever had your windows theme be reset? Here how to change it back and fix a glitch, oh Vista and your glitches…

Your playing a game and you minimize or do something and you get a pop up that says the Windows Theme has been reset. Now what?

If the windows theme changes or you cannot change it back to the color you wanted do the following:

1. right-click on your desktop and click on ‘Personalize’.

2. Click Window’s Color and Appearance

POSSIBLE PROBLEM: Many users reported that, after they click on ‘Window Color and Appearance’, they see a window like the one below.

If this applies to you, then choose Windows Aero in the Color scheme list, click on OK and restart the procedure described above. You will now find all the menus and options described above.

Now that you have fixed your theme you can stop complaining about Vista for an hour till something else breaks.

Windows is known for several ways to get into the operating system without knowing your password (safe mode, command prompt, boot cds, etc). Unfortunately when you forget your OSX password people tell you you’re stuck without the OSX dvd…well this isn’t exactly true! Follow these steps and you’ll be in OSX in no time!

Shut down your Mac.

Go into single user mode (hold the Apple and S key at the same time while booting your machine).

When you get into terminal type in the folowing:

mount -uw /

rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Shutdown -h now

Follow the on screen instructions (should look like the same setup from when you initially turned on your mac

After you follow the steps it should make you a brand new admin account! From there you can either change your old password and log back into your former account or you can delete your old account and start with a close to new machine

This method does work on both Leopard and Snow Leopard!

For anyone who owns an iPod and charges it off a computer knows that when you plug it in iTunes starts and tries to sync your data. This isn’t a problem, if your on your iTunes. Many people have there main iTunes then they have other person computers that are not the “master” iTunes. Here is how to make iTunes sync only when you tell it to.

Solution!

Plug-in your iPod to see if you even have iTunes and it recognizes your iPod.

Not always a bad thing but can be annoying when Jamming to ACDC

How to stop auto sync (still opens iTunes)

Good. Now if you are on your normal “master” iTunes it will start to sync which does not prompt any messages. If you are not on your “master” iTunes that it will show you this…

After ten times your going to hit Erase and Sync by accident

To get this to go away do the following

Click Edit>Preferences

Click Edit>Prefrences

Then a box will come up with tabs at the top right click the tap called “Devices” then you want to check the box that says “Disable Automatic Syncing for iPhones and iPods”

Top right tab Devices then click Disable Automatic Syncing for iPhones and iPods

Congratulations! You no longer have to punch holes in things!

Install mIRC on your mac!

I don’t know about most of you, but I personally prefer using mIRC as my primary IRC client. Unfortunately however mIRC was not designed to work on Mac OSX (and colloquy just doesn’t do the trick for me). So I decided I’d try installing mIRC on my Mac and it ended successfully, so here are the steps that I took to installing it:
Step 1: Download mIRC from http://www.mirc.com/get.html

Step 2: Download Darwine from: http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/

Step 3: Mount the Darwine DMG and drag both the darwine and trix folders into the application folder

Step 4: Go into the Darwine folder (located in applications) and run WineHelper

Step 5: You’ll see a process window pop up, go to the application drop down menu and select Open (or hit command O), in here select the mIRC.exe install we downloaded earlier.

Step 6: Now the install for mIRC will popout (just like how it looks on windows, it’s normal if an error pops up right before mIRC’s install comes up), then in here install just like you would for windows EXCEPT make sure you uncheck all additional tasks (desktop/start menu icons, etc)

Step 7: Now mirc is installed and functional on your computer, to open it, go to WineHelper again, go to application->open and go to /program files/mIRC/mirc.exe/ select that and mirc should run ☺ (to make life a little bit easier, you can copy that short cut anywhere so you can open it up easily in the future)

Step 8: follow: www.justin.tv/p/chat_guide/ and setup mIRC

If you have any additional questions make sure you ask me @ www.gogeeks.tv/live/
