With Skype Mobile, it’s a fairly easy process of simply signing in with your existing Skype credentials; everything will be transferred over from your Skype contacts. You can be invited to an existing chat group, start a new one, and call people. I’ve not yet gotten the opportunity to call a group of people, however I have had a group of people call me and the sound quality is excellent! It did not seem to matter if I was in a 3G coverage area or not, I was able to hear everyone clearly and there was not a single moment where anything broke up or had static run through it.

I do have a few gripes with the application though, several times throughout my call I had been dropped. I’m not sure if this had to do with the fact that I logged in on Skype on my laptop (to test the response time of the chat) or just because the host dropped the call, but I was never able to “Join Call” from my phone and always had to be called back.

I also wish that when making or receiving a call you stayed in the application and were not taken back to the Android calling screen. It’s slightly jarring to be having a conversation via chat when you’re suddenly called from another Skype user. Then you have to go back to the home screen of Android, and back into the Skype app to be able to continue your conversation.

Aside from those two minor things, the app does exactly what one would think that a Skype app should do. On top of that it does those things well, and I’m sure that the Skype team will continue to improve upon it and maybe my complaints will be fixed in a future update. I give the Skype Mobile app a B.

First things first, in terms of how it looks and feels the Ally phones are remarkably unremarkable, with a mostly matte black appearance. There are two muted chrome strips on the sides of the screen, and the volume rocker and camera toggle are chrome as well. The addition of the chrome seems rather pointless to me, but it’s functional and works. The phone feels heavy for its size, but it isn’t dense, it just feels like it belongs there.

The screen itself is a rather nice 800×480 unit in a 3.2-inch diagonal form, which makes looking at it a real pleasure. You can read text very clearly on it and things just render flawlessly on it. The display itself also doesn’t put much strain on the battery life of the phone, which depending on usage (an average day sees me browsing the web and maybe using the GPS for 10-15 minutes max), will last all day. Also the charging kit that comes with the phone is the standard mini-USB cable that can plug into a charging outlet or into your pc/laptop/(or in my case, an Xbox 360)

The standout feature for this phone however, and the reason I chose it over the Droid and newly released Droid X and Incredible is the keyboard. It’s truly a joy to use, with very well angled and spaced out keys, a nice directional pad, and nice feedback.

The phone is not without its weaknesses however. The processor seems woefully underpowered for the Android 2.1 operating system, and while it’s not really hanging up on anything (for the most part) the phone just seems surprised, for lack of a better word, anytime it’s tasked with something that requires a ton of processing.

The camera could also use a little work. It meters light fairly quickly and produces a shot that is usable the majority of the time (any picture I didn’t like I could usually just change the flash on and have a decent one afterwards).

On to the OS, this is a near vanilla build of Android 2.1. It’s fully capable of running all the apps in the app store. Whether it’s updated to 2.2 and Froyo remains to be seen, but I personally see no reason why it wouldn’t be. Speaking of the app store, I like it a lot. There are a bunch of quality free applications out there for just about anything you would need and/or want. I personally have a bunch of social media apps there so that way I can keep updated on how certain things in the media are unfolding.

When it all comes down to it though, I’d give this phone a grade of B. It’s got a gorgeous display, and an excellent keyboard. Unfortunately it could stand to look a little nicer, and the hardware itself just doesn’t do the OS any justice. If you’re looking to choose between this and a Droid, I’d probably choose the Droid because of the hardware, but having used both I prefer the Ally.

Remember the Microsoft Courier? Well it appears although that project failed, we still have a chance at seeing a device very similar to this thanks to Toshiba and their new concept device, the Libretto W100. This device uses two 7 inch multitouch displays with resolutions of 1024×600 pixels. This device is powered by an Intel U5400 CPU which is clocked at a 1.2 GHz, it also uses 2gb of DDR3 memory, and has a 64 GB SSD. The Libretto also has a few other less important things like: 1 megapixel webcam, Bluetooth, MicroSD card slot, Wi-Fi, one USB port, and an 8-Cell battery.

This device is apparently only a concept device and will only be available to the market in a limited amount (thanks to their 25th anniversary). When watching the video you’ll notice that it has a few advantages to the iPad and a few disadvantages. A positive that I noticed is that it has the option to use one of the screens as a virtual keyboard and fold it in such a way where it will take the form factor of a netbook (this could be a disadvantage if the screen isn’t as responsive as I expect it to be). Now one HUGE disadvantage I see with this device is the fact that it is using Windows 7 as its operating system, now this can be useful however on a device as small as it is (and with the specs), it’s best using a mobile operating system like Android, or Ubuntu Netbook. Aside from the OS there really aren’t that many disadvantages to this device, so check out the video and let me know what you think!

To get this app you simply just need to go to Cydia and search for “AndroidLock” (no need to add sources and it’s free). Once downloaded and installed just go to Settings -> AndroidLock. In this submenu all you do is set your combination, once set, reset your phone and the AndroidLock should take effect.

Now although this app sounds cool in theory it isn’t for everyone. I feel like a lot of the android lovers would like it (I am an android fan, just pointing that out) I feel like it’s too buggy right now but a lot of people don’t mind and still use it. For example this doesn’t work like this: “Slide to unlock” then you slide in your combination. Nope, there is no slide to unlock so because of that I immediately uninstalled it. A second thing is that it’s kinda insecure. Why is it insecure? Well to get around the password you simply call the Phone, then you get the “Slide to answer” when you answer the phone just click home and it takes you to the home screen, then when you’re there you just uninstall AndroidLock from Cydia and the password is removed.

So for a lot of people those bugs won’t matter and that’s great go for the download, but for me although it was kinda cool the bugs kinda kill it for me, maybe once those bugs are killed I’ll be on board

Stardock is a company that actually focused on making a bunch of cool items to make your windows based computer look a lot prettier then it already is! Objectdock is actually one of their most popular ones. People get bored of their operating system and UI, that’s normal. So lots of people want to experiment with things like Objectdock to get a feel of mac without actually switching. I personally love Objectdock, I used it all the time when I was on windows, then later after buying a mac, I grew out of it and swapped back to the quick launch.

In all honesty, I’m actually not a big fan of the Mac Dock. I actually learned to love the combination of the ObjectDock and Windows startbar combination. There are a lot of plugins that the Objectdock has, that the Mac dock surprisingly doesn’t have. it also doesn’t disrupt your cpu cycles and ram too bad!

Now the real question is what I actually recommend this application for people to download and the answer is that it really depends on the user. If you don’t care about having a pretty computer and you only want speed, then this is NOT for you. If you use your computer just for simple apps and you’re bored of your UI then definitely download this application.

This app is pretty much a Google Voice Search for the iPhone. The only difference is that it appears that it is powered by Yahoo/Bing results. When using this application I did notice a few problems, one when finding results it was kind of slow when it came to using edge (I haven’t tested this on 3G since I’m on the old 2G iPhone). When it comes to finding what you need though it does the job.

If you need something like this I definitely recommend downloading this as fast as possible since I wouldn’t expect this app to be free for too much longer. When startups release their first applications and they are attempting to build a name they typically release their apps at first for free to build a reputation, then when they gain a base they will add a price tag. However for me personally I would prefer just using the google app and text searching everything since the vast majority of the time it’s just faster typing then talking (plus you’d look pretty damn stupid asking your phone a question in public).

1- Mad Libs- Possible the dirtiest app we have found, depending on how you use it. This app is fun but does not feature a whole lot. I need to brush up on my terms, but that is a good part of it. They have a little review for those of us who are forgetful.

Emoji Free – This  is so cool, its the  it adds a keyboard, well if your not on a iPhone then you see squares with numbers so it does have some limits.

Crush the Castle- I originally played this game on my PC and loved it. Now the App is out it is just as fun!

TM Zero- Is a fun app sort of like Tower Defense. Aliens trying to steal sheep. Fun!

Physics Free- An app that has mini-games involving physics and other objectives

1. Backgrounder- Backgrounder is an application which allows you to run multiple applications simultaneously (Ex. Run last.fm while using other applications, or if you have the Tom Tom application, you can set it to run in the background so if you get a phone call it WON’T stop routing).
2. GV Mobile- GV Mobile is a Google Voice app. This app was rejected by apple due to issues with AT&T (Apple claims it was replicating features that were already present in the iPhone). Although this app may be available in the appstore in the future, it won’t happen for a while (if it ever does). For now you can install it through Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.
3. Intelliscreen- Allows you to see more on your lock screen (ex. Calendar updates, email updates, etc).
4. SBSettings- SBSettings is a quickway to manage your iPhone settings without leaving the application you are currently in. It lets you change several settings very easily (such as bluetooth, brightness, processes, wifi, etc).
5. Winterboard- Winterboard is a very popular reason for people to jailbreak their iPhones/iPod Touches. This application allows you to install cool themes on your iPhone to make it look much more attractive (hundreds of themes are available for winterboard).
6. iBlacklist- Allows you to block numbers from calling or texting you.
7. Qik- Allows you to video broadcast from your iPhone’s camera anywhere you have 3G speeds or higher.
8. Poof- Allows you to hide icons.
9. 5 icon dock- Allows you to have 5 applications on your Dock.
10. qTweeter- This is a social media client that allows you to update your twitter or facebook status from within ANY application without closing it.

1. Sandstorm- A FPS (First Person Shooter) 3d game that is very challenging.

2. AC-130 Lite- You are in a AC-130 shooting enemies that seem to jog in a line.

3. Action Heroes- A 3-in-1 game that is very addicting

It was a slow week this week, developers went and played Video Games.

1. Nikon Learn and Explore- This app tells you a lot about how to make your photos look good

2. Real Racing GTI- One of the best racing games of the free and paid games

3. Shazam- Listens to a song and tells you details about it

4. NLogFree- A synth in an App it is fun for hours

5. Shout- great way to advertise a website

The crew

Story: So in the beginning of the game you play as Spider-man, Wolverine, Iron man, and Capitan America. Once you beat the first mission or two, Some crazy stuff goes down. After the Conflict happens, Capitan America and Iron man have a dispute. Iron man wants all of the super heroes to sign up for the army and give their real name so that the people feel safe. Where Capitan America wants the super heroes to rebel and to stay the way they are. (Kind of weird how Capitan America is fighting against America now xD)  But after they argue for like 2 weeks, you have a choice. You can join up with Iron man and make all of the super heroes sign up, and if they don’t you put them in jail. Or you can join Capitan America and Fight the government and take down Iron man. Which ever one you pick will have a different story line, different bosses, different everything. I’m not gonna go any further cause I don’t want to spoil it.

Co-op: From what I’ve heard you do do a 4 player co-op. Everyone picks a superhero that they want and then play. I haven’t been able to do co-op cause almost no one has this game. SAD FACE!!! But I’ve played the first one on co-op and I’m thinking its the same thing. And it was amazing.

Graphics: The graphics in this game are outstanding. When It’s a cut scene its breath taking. But if it’s a in game scene  then it’s ok, not the best but still amazing

Overall: Overall I say you should all at least rent this game. I plan on buying this later on it’s that much fun. It has really good replay value, amazing graphics, and a good story line. I give it a 8/10.

Tweetie is by far the most popular Twitter Application in the App Store. Just when everyone thought that the application couldn’t get any better Tweetie 2 was released. Every little thing that people were slightly upset about was fixed and Tweetie was given a complete makeover making it both an organized and attractive application (oppose to the former ugly yet organized look. Although this application has seemed to be like a perfect update to a great application there is still one big fault: this update is not free it’s an additional whopping $2.99 putting it on the more expensive end of applications, although the price I think is quite reasonable it makes former Tweetie users angry and makes them question whether the update is worth it.

Above us are the different looks between Tweetie (left) and Tweetie 2 (right). Although the two applications look quite simliar you’ll notice small aesthetic changes that make it so much better. The sensitivity to finger touches has been improved greatly (like sliding contacts to see additional options on the original Tweetie was pretty buggy but with Tweetie 2 I have had no problems with it). You will also notice that features such as retweeting and image uploads have all been improved and more short cuts have been added.

The greatest feature that I have seen to be added in Tweetie 2 are the profiles. Although viewing profiles before has been there the new way of viewing it is both prettier and includes more detail then the original did. Another improvement on that note is the fact that you can now alter your profile settings within Tweetie. Look at the Images Above for all the cool features added to profiles.

So in the end the two applications do in fact have several features that have been added upon the already amazing application (without losing any speed, if anything I have only noticed a speed increase). Do I think it should have been a separate app with an upgrade cost of $2.99? No. Do I believe it’s a great update and everyone should spend the money to upgrade it? Yes. Although I don’t agree with the pricing it is an amazing app and fills all the holes that the original Tweetie application, so if features that I listed are essential to you, support developer and buy Tweetie 2.

1. Sharpshooter- One of the best sniper games on the App store. Includes motion sensing aiming and a fair amount of enemies.
2. The Weather Channel- Shows local weather videos an weather by increments.
3. Photoshop Mobile- While not having all of the abilities of Photoshop but it can crop and add saturation etc.
4. Wikipedia- Access to Wikipedia with easy to control layout
5. WoWFishing- For all the World of Warcraft fishermen who are to lazy to click the mouse. Use motion sensing to cast and loot.

That’s this weeks apps.

1. JumiCam (Lite)*- Let’s you view your webcam images from anywhere (withing the same wifi as your webcam) can change cameras (Webcam, VhScrCap)
2. JumiMouse (Lite)*- Another of Jumi’s Apps lets you use your iPhone as a touch pad much like those on laptops.
3. Nimbuzz- Is a chat client with AIM, Yahoo, Skype, Facebook and many other chat clients
4. Rhapsody- The famous music source is now an App featuring free music streaming and many other features
5. Howcast- Shows you videos on anything that needs a little know-how

Time keeps ticking away.

The iHome is a ipod/iphone charger/stereo. It has a charger port that stands your ipod/iphone streight up. It has an LCD screen with time and other info (track, radio station). The iHome can play your ipod music, radio and it has a in-put jack (+1) but no CDs It has a clock with a DST setting (Arizona, your welcome). The screen can be a little bright but it can be set down to almost off. The clock is automatically set to your time on your iphone.

The iHome has two alarms which are easy to set with the wheel. It can play all of your music louder than what the Apple headphone put out.

There are some bad parts about the iHome: it cannot play music on batteries, its bright, remote is a little cumbersome to use and its a little bit of a trick to get your iPod into it.

Overall the iHome is a good product that does its job.
